About Open Record Scout

Open Record Scout is a free tool for searching public records — the same kinds of government and nonprofit databases that paid services repackage and charge a monthly fee to access.

Why it exists

Court records, corporate filings, political donations, and federal registries are public by law. Yet companies like BeenVerified and Spokeo charge ~$22/month to put a search box in front of them. Open Record Scout puts that same search box in front of 16 sources for free, and — unlike those services — links every result back to the official record so you can verify it yourself.

How it works

When you search, Open Record Scout queries each source in parallel. Sources that offer an open API return results live; sources that require a key or don't permit automated access are linked directly so you can search them in one click. Results are grouped by category and always cited.

Our principles

What Open Record Scout is not

It is not a Consumer Reporting Agency, and its results may not be used for employment, credit, insurance, tenant-screening, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA. See our Terms and Privacy for details.
